MIDLOTHIAN, Texas — On a calm spring evening, a few dozen people filled this park in Midlothian to make sure the name Missy Bevers wasn’t forgotten.
“Let's make sure we all stay together and keep talking about this case until someone comes forward,” said Renae Rodden, who organized the vigil.
The crowd was made up mostly of strangers who didn’t know Missy, yet still wanted her killer found.
Around 4:30 a.m. on April 18th, 2016 Missy arrived at Creekside Church of Christ to prepare for a fitness class she was teaching. When students showed up for the 5 am class, they found her dead with puncture wounds all over her body. Surveillance footage shows her inside the church, as well as a second person dressed in police tactical gear, who detectives believe is her killer.
Now eight years later, no arrests, no suspects, and no persons of interest have been named.
It’s part of the reason private investigator William Dear is taking on the case.
“I took it over on my own nickel and dime about 4 or five months ago,” he said. “I couldn't understand why it hadn't been solved.
He and so many others.
Rodden hosts a podcast that digs deep into Missy’s murder. It’s helped build a big following of people intrigued and perplexed by her case.
“I was a friend of hers, I worked with her,” Rodden said. “She was very humble. She was very sweet, very caring.”
And Rodden vows not to stop talking about her until Missy’s murder is solved.
