Two suspects plead guilty in fatal shooting outside Fort Worth Whataburger last year

Isaiah Nunez was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the murder of Zechariah Trevino.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Two of three men charged in the 2023 killing of a Fort Worth teenager outside of a Whataburger have pleaded guilty in the case.

Wednesday 18-year-old Daniel Reed pleaded guilty to murder in connection to the death of Zechariah Trevino, according to court documents. Reed was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

On February 18, Isaiah Nunez, 18, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 35 years in prison, according to the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office.

Nunez also received a 15-year sentence for aggravated assault against Trevino's cousin Mia Dominguez. She was critically injured in the shooting.

On Jan. 20 police say Nunez and two other teens got into an argument with Trevino at the Whataburger parking lot on West Berry Street. In an interview with WFAA, Trevino's mother said he was a cook at Whataburger and was fatally shot while trying to protect his cousin.

In arrest documents, investigators say Trevino's cousin had upset the three suspects. Police say the three teens pulled up on Trevino and the girl while they were waiting to be picked up and started a verbal altercation about the girl's social media comments. Shortly after, shots were fired.

Along with Nunez and a 17-year-old male were arrested in connection to the shooting.
