Cowboys WR arrested on public intoxication charge, police say

Officers found Terrance Williams' Lamborghini crashed into a light pole in Frisco, police say. Williams and his attorney disputed the police account in a statement later Saturday.

Cowboys wide receiver Terrance Williams was arrested early Saturday on a public intoxication charge near his home in Frisco, police said.

Officers arrested him after they discovered that his Lamborghini had gone off a road nearby and struck a light pole, according to a police news release, but Williams and his attorney released a statement later Saturday, disputing some of those details.

"Contrary to media reports, Terrance did not hit a light pole and there was no light pole even near the vehicle," attorney Chip Lewis said in the statement. "Secondly, his arrest was wholly unrelated to the traffic accident."

Williams, in the statement, said he had to hop a curb near his home after a driver in front of him slammed on his brakes.

After exchanging insurance information with the driver, Williams said, he called a tow truck and took a scooter from his house to go meet the tow truck driver.

A police officer saw him on the scooter and "arrested me without performing any sobriety tests," Williams said in the statement.

Police said the accident happened about 4:45 a.m. near the intersection of Frisco Green Avenue and Lebanon Road.

Officers arrived and found a 2017 blue Lamborghini, which was registered to Williams, that had gone off the road and into a light pole, the news release said. The driver had left the scene.

Officers then found Williams riding an "electric bicycle" near his home and arrested him, the news release said. Police arrested Williams on a public intoxication charge, a Class C misdemeanor.

Williams was released from the Frisco jail Saturday morning after posting bond.

Williams, a Dallas native, caught 53 passes for 568 yards for the Cowboys last year, starting 14 games. He was drafted by the team out of Baylor in 2013.
