THE COLONY, Texas — Rix Sports Bar in The Colony, formerly known as CJ's, announced they will be closing down after nearly 30 years in business.

The Facebook post said it will continue regular operating hours until July 27. Rix asked customers to comment on the post with their memories and photos, and the community delivered.

"I met many great friends there! I will for sure remember the good times to be had at CJ's and then Rix! I'll always remember the dart tournaments, New Year's Eve shenanigans, the weddings and receptions, the walk of shame the next day to pay my tab that I walked," customer Amy Shilling said.

After almost 30 unforgettable years, we are heartbroken to announce that Rix (formerly CJ’s) will be closing its doors....

Another customer, Marissa Cruz, posted: "This is the worst news. I have so many memories and friends made at Rix. It was my home away from home."

Even employees shared their thoughts on the social media post.

"I was 21 years old when I started working there. I grew up there," Kimberly Burcham Lake said.

Rix general manager Alexandra Treichler said in a statement that the restaurant's landlord TY Commercial "has made it completely impossible to stay."

Even so, the restaurant isn't going down without a fight. Treichler started a petition to "show our landlord how much we will be missed." The petition had 91 signatures and a goal of 100 as of Friday, July 19.

In the online petition, people stated the "great atmosphere" and Rix's place as a "neighborhood staple" as reasons for signing.

The sports bar also posted to its Facebook asking customers where they'd like to see Rix relocate in The Colony. The post said while Rix would like to stay as close to its current location at 6700 Main Street as possible, there are few spaces zoned for it.

Rix told customers in the same Facebook post to stay tuned for details on a going away party and a new location.
