PLANO, Texas — Whether you and/or your daughter are looking for prom dresses, or if you're looking to help make some prom magic, there's a program in North Texas that's taking and giving the help.
St. Andrew Methodist Church in Plano has launched its 15th annual Prom Closet, which provides free dresses, shoes, purses, jewelry and more for high school girls.
According to the program's website, sign-ups for girls looking to shop will open on Monday, Jan. 22. Shopping days will run by appointment in late February to early March.
During their appointment, each girl will check in and have a personal shopper help find dresses in a boutique-style room. She'll have 20 dressing rooms to try on dresses before making her final decision. She can then look for jewelry, shoes, a handbag and a wrap, all free of charge.
According to the Plano Mom's Facebook page, Prom Closet will be open to all high school girls in and outside of DFW. Organizers expect to have 4,000 free dresses available by February.
The program website says each girl must be present to shop for her dress. She can also bring one guest who is at least 16 years old.
For those who are looking to help with the Prom Closet, there are a few ways you can do so.
Donations are being accepted through Feb. 29.
You can drop off donations at St. Andrew's north entrance (1401 Mira Vista Boulevard). Be sure to check the Prom Closet website for drop-off times.
You can also buy items from their Amazon Wish List to have them sent to the church directly.
The Prom Closet is also looking for volunteers to serve as personal shoppers, desk workers, dressing room assistants and set-up and tear-down crew members.
Volunteers have to be at least 18 years old and will be asked to complete a background check. Click here to sign up.
