DESOTO, Texas — Monday, the City of DeSoto held a groundbreaking ceremony for a community Aquatic and Recreation Center (ARC).
The city is transforming vacant land at Curtistene S. McCowan Park on Uhl Road for the ARC to become the citywide venue for fitness and multigenerational recreation.
The $53 million project is being designed by the Smith Group of Dallas. The construction of the state-of-the-art facility is expected to be finished in February 2026.
“It will bring together all generations of our community into one thriving location and will show all who join us just how unique, unified, and dynamic our city is," said DeSoto Mayor Rachel L. Proctor.
Highlights of the 74,000-square-foot facility will include an 8-lane competitive pool, leisure pool, gyms, indoor track, fitness and strength training area, meeting rooms, and a social gathering space.
"Together, we are not just building a facility; we are building a legacy of community wellness and engagement for our residents for decades to come,” said Interim City Manager Isom Cameron.
