DALLAS — WFAA, the TEGNA-owned ABC News affiliate, and Dallas’s Perot Museum of Nature and Science, announced an exclusive local television partnership to provide live coverage of the highly anticipated Great North American Eclipse this spring.
The eclipse, happening on April 8, 2024, will blanket north Texas in darkness as Dallas is the largest U.S. metropolitan area in the path of totality.
Through the partnership, WFAA will be the only local television station hosting anchored live streaming coverage from the Perot Museum’s extraordinary Great North American Eclipse event, offering North Texans the opportunity to safely experience this once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon. WFAA will have priority access to the Perot Museum’s experts and visiting scientists from Carnegie Science.
“WFAA is proud to collaborate with the Perot Museum of Nature and Science to bring our audiences a unique glimpse into the Great North American Solar Eclipse,” said Carolyn Mungo, WFAA Vice President and Station Manager.
“By pairing WFAA’s veteran journalists with the Perot Museum’s team of experts, our coverage will highlight the phenomenon in a way that educates and entertains our audiences no matter where they’re watching,” Mungo said.
“The Perot Museum's partnership with WFAA will allow us to expand the powerful sense of awe and wonder created by the Great North American Eclipse, by reaching widespread audiences," said Dr. Linda Silver, Eugene McDermott Chief Executive Officer at Perot Museum of Nature and Science.
“WFAA's commitment to showcasing this celestial phenomenon amplifies the Perot Museum's mission to spark significant scientific curiosity and discovery, while ensuring everyone has the opportunity to safely engage this rare, historic event first hand,” Dr. Silver said.
WFAA’s coverage, to be broadcast on its free WFAA+ streaming platform, begins at 12 p.m. (CT.) The partial eclipse is expected to begin at 12:23 p.m. (CT.). Peak totality happens at 1:42 p.m. (CT.)
WFAA will anchor the station’s continuous coverage from the Perot Museum and will have teams of journalists across Texas to share the eclipse as it happens.
