DALLAS — American Airlines launched daily, non-stop service to San Luis Obispo, Calif., from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on April 2 — but that's not the only new route travelers should anticipate this spring and summer.

By summer, the Fort Worth-based carrier will add 18 new routes, which includes the new destination of Glacier International Airport in Kalispell, Mont., and American's return to Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Nova Scotia.

American Airlines Group Inc. (Nasdaq: AAL) plans to grow at its largest hub — DFW Airport — in the summer with 900 flights a day, helped along by 15 new gates at the Terminal E satellite.

In May, American will add daily service from DFW Airport to South Carolina's Myrtle Beach International Airport. In June, customers will be able to fly from DFW Airport to Kalispell, Harrisburg International Airport in Pennsylvania and Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, Calif.

Other additions at DFW Airport include second daily flights to Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport and Madrid's Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport.

On the east coast, Ronald Reagan Washington International Airport will gain Saturday and Sunday service to Melbourne, Fla., on May 4.

American is also adding service in May and June from New York's LaGuardia Airport to Columbia, S.C., Asheville, N.C., Daytona Beach, Fla., Jackson, Wyo., and Halifax.

And from Philadelphia International Airport, travelers will be able to head to Halifax on June 13.

On the west coast, American is adding routes from Los Angeles International Airport to Santa Rosa and Kalispell.

Additionally, American is expected to launch service from Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport to Raleigh, N.C., on May 3.

In June, Chicago O'Hare International Airport is adding year-round routes to Manchester, N.H., and summertime flights to Kalispell and Durango, Colo.

The airline first announced the new routes in December as it unveiled options for summer travel.

At the time, American said that, in addition to delivering the most choices for customers, it's investing to provide a more consistent experience across regional and mainline fleets.

Earlier this week, American debuted its brand-new Airbus A321neo aircraft. The first American Airlines flight on an Airbus A321neo took off from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and landed in Orlando International Airport on Tuesday.

The flight marked the first American route flown on the jet, which the airline recently took delivery of.

The A321neo, made by the French plane maker Airbus, carries 196 seats with 129 in the main cabin, 47 extra-legroom seats and 20 in first class.
