CLEBURNE – If you don't live in Cleburne, signs that read "Vote Yes" may seem a little vague.

The phrase lines streets and front yards, and the signs are just about everywhere.

"I think there were like a thousand signs put up," said Cleburne resident Brad Cowan.

But for people living in the city, "yes" only means one thing — Cleburne Station is a go.

"I'm excited about it," said Jimmy Scott. "We're all excited about it around here."

Scott is one of more than 2,000 voters who approved the Cleburne Station development during Tuesday's election. People stood in line for hours to cast their votes, and the turnout was the highest the town has ever seen for a city election.

The $100-million project will bring major retailers and restaurants — even a multi-use baseball stadium — to a plot of land located just off the Chisholm Trail Parkway.

"I think it's going to draw a lot more people to town," Cowan said.

The city will have to pay for the $25 million baseball field. Voters needed to approve the creation of a sales tax to cover those costs.

The results show the power of a simple message: More than 70 percent of people ended up voting in favor of the project.
