Birdville ISD offers free tuition for high school grads

The district is using money from its oil and gas leases to pay for the educational perk, and more than 1,000 students from Birdville ISD will be eligible.

BIRDVILLE Birdville ISD graduates this spring will get a great gift:One year of free tuition at any Tarrant County College campus.

The district is using money from its oil and gas leases to pay for the educational perk, and more than 1,000 students from Birdville ISD will be eligible.

To qualify for this unique opportunity, a student must:

  • Attend BISD schools for both their junior and senior years
  • Enroll within one year of high school graduation (except in case of deferment due to active military service)
  • Enroll for a minimum of six semester hours per semester at any TCC campus
  • Pass at least two-thirds of all hours attempted each semester
  • Achieve a minimum 2.5 GPA on first semester hours attempted

The scholarship program offers a maximum amount of $750 per semester.

By establishing this endowment, trustees are impacting the future of our students by offering them an opportunity to further their education, Superintendent Stephen F. Waddell said in a written statement. In addition, this program goes beyond ensuring that students are college ready as required in the 2009 legislative session's House Bill 3. It provides the means to make college a reality.
