Atmos Energy announced Thursday morning that it would turn off gas to 2,800 homes in Northwest Dallas on Thursday as it works to repair lines. Service will be out for some residents for three to four weeks.

You can also visit Atmos' website or go to the Bachman Recreation Center (9655 Webb Chapel Road) starting at 4 p.m. for more information.
A second location will open at the Walnut Hill Recreation Center (10011 Midway Road) at 4 p.m. with Spanish-language assistance. The centers are open 24/7, and are being run by The American Red Cross.
IF YOU CHOOSE TO LEAVE
If you plan to leave your home, Atmos Energy is offering financial assistance for hotels and accommodations. Call (972) 964-4191 for info.
WHAT TO DO / BRING
Bring medication, clothes, and other personal belongings you need for the next three to five days. This includes your ID, cash, credit cards, cell phone, and chargers.
Don't forget your pets, their medication, food, and water bowls.
Be sure that infants, disabled, or elderly family members have their needs met.
Let first responders know of neighbors who may need a ride or help leaving.
When you have time, call a family member or friend and let them know where you're going.
Lock your doors and windows, making sure your home is secure before you leave. The Dallas Police Department tells WFAA that there will be fixed posts throughout the area to watch for looting and crime.
WFAA spoke to a woman who said Atmos offered three things:
- A $1250 debit card to be used however they please.
- A $1250 cashier’s check to be used however they please.
- Or Atmos could just arrange for them to stay at a hotel, and that they would set it up for them—but it would be for 5 days and be within the $1250 limit.
Anxious residents waited in long lines at Bachman Recreation Center, waiting to get vouchers for hotels from Atmos Energy now that gas is shut off at about 2,800 homes.
Atmos Energy said piping that has been in place since the 1940s are being replaced. Crews are putting in a modern, gas distribution system. About 120 contract crews will start replacing natural gas network and about 400 people from the City of Dallas are also assisting.
In a news conference, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said that Atmos is checking for potential leaks in other Dallas areas.
