DALLAS — Texas is open for business! Whether a company is native to the Lone Star State or just got here as fast as it could, we want to know: What makes these businesses tick? Why are so many of them calling Texas home? And how do they plan to continue to expand in the years to come? This is Trending in Texas.
Since it was founded in 2013, Buff City Soap has opened more than 200 stores -- and it continues to expand at an exponential rate.
Even better? The Tennessee-formed company is now doing so out of a new headquarters based right here in North Texas.
After getting its start in Memphis, the handcrafted, plant-sourced soap retailer moved its headquarters to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 2020.
Employees credit Buff City Soap’s customizable plant-based products and their retail theater magic as two of the many reasons as to why the company is able to provide a unique offering for its patrons. And such personalized experiences, Buff City Soap's top brass says, is what has enabled the company to engage in rapid growth, with the brand now operating more than 215 locations and franchises across 30 states.
“Buff is at this really unique intersection of good for you, experiential and making a difference in the world,” says Buff City Soap CEO Craig Kessler. "For that reason, I think it’s a very unique time for this business to be growing."
The decision for Buff City Soap to grow its brand from an HQ in Dallas came naturally too, Kessler says. The Dallas region has gained more jobs than any other major U.S. metro area over the past three years. On top of that, nearly 200 companies have moved their headquarters to the North Texas region since 2010 -- including 21 in the past year alone.
"There’s really no better place to build our foundation and our home base than Dallas, Texas," Kessler says. "Stable business climate, great on taxes, really talented work force — there is just an energy in Dallas and a receptivity to companies spreading their wings that makes this place feel like home."
