Big Lots closes 2 more DFW stores amid bankruptcy

The two closures bring the total number of stores on the chopping block in DFW to 11.
It's not known yet which stores will be closing.

DALLAS — Two more DFW Big Lots stores are closing after the discount retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the company announced.

The Columbus, Ohio-based company added 46 additional stores to the growing list of locations closing across the country, according to WBNS, the CBS affiliate in Columbus. Big Lots, which sells furniture, decor and other items filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in early September

The stores are located at 5000 Main St. in The Colony, 2855 Ridge Road in Rockwall

The shuttered stores bring the total number of closed DFW stores to 11. Texas stores in Houston, Portland, Converse and Round Rock will also be closed.

"Big Lots operates in a very crowded and competitive market where other value players do a far better job of delivering on low prices and compelling bargains. It needs to step up its game if it is to succeed post-bankruptcy," Bruce Thorn, Big Lots President and CEO, said in a statement announcing the bankruptcy.

Big Lots operated 1,389 stores nationwide before the closures started.
