It's a good time to be a billionaire in Dallas-Fort Worth. The North Texans featured on the new Forbes 400 have largely seen their fortunes increase in the past year.
The magazine published Oct. 1 its latest ranking of the 400 wealthiest Americans, using estimates based on both public and private investments. The list includes 43 people living in Texas with a collective net worth of $777 billion.
Of those 43, a solid 19 are known to live in DFW. Walmart heiress Alice Walton remains No. 1 in DFW.
Elon Musk, who spends at least part of his time living in Texas, remained No. 1 nationally with an estimated net worth of about $244 billion. The 400 have a combined net worth of $5.4 trillion, a record that Forbes said showed how the wealth of the richest Americans is soaring.
To get on the Forbes 400, the minimum net worth this year was $3.3 billion.
