An Indian ice cream shop is likely expanding its reach in North Texas, with a second store planned in Plano for the end of this year, according to a filing with the state

Dumont Creamery and Cafe opened its first location in the United States in Frisco, on the border of Little Elm, toward the end of 2023. Opening day for the chain's debut U.S. store drew a line of people out the door, with several customers recognizing the ice cream brand from India, franchise owner Sai Sashank previously told the Dallas Business Journal.

But that's not it for the brand. A June 4 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation indicates another store is lined up at 8400 Preston Road, Suite #150, in Plano, near a slew of retail and other hip eateries, including Delucca Gaucho Pizza & Wine, Hopdoddy Burger Bar and Lazy Dog.

The filing indicates construction could start as early as mid-July. It is expected to be delivered sometime in mid-October, and the estimated cost for the project is roughly $100,000. Information in TDLR filings is often preliminary and subject to change.

The space, which spans 1,640 square feet, was formerly a trendy dessert spot called Dolly Llama. It shuttered in December 2023 after opening just a few months prior. Known for selling sweet waffles with unique toppings, Dolly Llama operates one other Dallas location in Uptown, off of McKinney Avenue.

Construction for the ice cream store includes renovations to the former restaurant, including paint finishes, wall partitions and kitchen finishes, per the filing.

Dumont is a foreign ice cream shop based in Hyderabad, India, where it has dozens of stores. It boasts a menu with options from around the world, including a ‘hokey pokey’ flavor from New Zealand, a sorbet flavor from Italy and a kheer flavor, which is inspired by a popular Indian dessert.

Additionally, the ice cream shop’s opening speaks to a growing Indian population moving into Collin County. About 220,000 Indian Americans live in Dallas-Fort Worth, and Collin County is an emerging Indian-American hot spot, growing from 3.8% to 7.5% of the total population in the last decade, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

The store also joins a list of global eateries in the region, including South Africa-based chicken joint Nando's Peri Peri and London-based Asian fusion restaurant Wagamama.
