ATLANTA — Southwest Airlines will reportedly cut flights to 16 cities from Atlanta as part of a broader reduction in the company's Atlanta footprint.

CNBC reported Wednesday that the cut in service will begin in April 2025. Southwest currently flies to 37 cities from Atlanta, according to the report, and that number will be reduced to 21.

The broader reduction in Atlanta reportedly includes cutting 140 pilot and 200 flight attendant positions in Southwest's Atlanta crew base. The airline will additionally reduce its gate presence from 18 to 11 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

CNBC obtained a Southwest company memo outlining the plans.

“Although we try everything we can before making difficult decisions like this one, we simply cannot afford continued losses and must make this change to help restore our profitability,” the memo said. “This decision in no way reflects our Employees’ performance, and we’re proud of the Hospitality and the efforts they have made and will continue to make with our Customers in ATL.”
