Glassybaby, a handmade glassware company, will open its first Texas location Nov. 29 in Dallas’ NorthPark Center.
The Seattle-based company is known for making versatile glass vessels that come in more than 400 colors and various designs. Each piece of glassware — whether a votive, rocker, vase or ornament — is individually hand-blown by artisans in Washington and Montana. The glassware ranges in price from around $60 to more than $100.
Its NorthPark store is a holiday season pop-up on level one of NorthPark Center, in space formerly occupied by Diptyque, which carried candles, perfumes, body care products and gifts.
While it's not a permanent store, the NorthPark demonstrates how the company may be testing out wider expansion plans — this is Glassybaby's first location outside the Pacific Northwest. The company is looking east to add to existing stores in Seattle and Bellevue, Washington; Lake Oswego, Oregon and Livingston, Montana. It also operates a manufacturing facility in Montana where glassblowers can train for free.
Glassybaby has donated more than $15 million to organizations in need as part of its mission to help people, animals and the planet, according to a Nov. 26 announcement.
In support of its mission, Glassybaby plans to donate a portion of its NorthPark sales to Cancer Support Community North Texas, a support group created to uplift and strengthen people impacted by cancer.
Founder Lee Rhodes came up with the idea for Glassybaby while undergoing chemotherapy two decades ago. After lighting a candle in a piece of glass art, the three-time lung cancer survivor said she felt healing from the votive and wanted others to feel the same.
The company is now a nearly $30 million brand, according to its Nov. 26 announcement.
"We are thrilled to be part of the Dallas community — and we're excited to launch just in time for the holiday season," Rhodes said in a statement. "For two decades, glassybaby has produced beautiful, handmade glass votives that give back to the community and promote hope and healing. We can't wait to expand this mission in the greater Dallas area."
