DALLAS — This story originally appeared in the Dallas Business Journal, a WFAA news partner.

Dallas-based Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Co. has partnered with Nashville-based pharmaceutical company RxPreferred Benefits to improve health care access and lower drug spending, according to a news release.

Through the partnership, employers who utilize RxPreferred's pharmacy benefits will have access to all medications through Cost Plus Drugs within their benefits packages. The benefits had only previously been offered to individuals outside of their insurance package.

"Our partnership with RxPreferred is another step in the direction of bringing transparency to healthcare and lowering drug cost for individuals and families across the county," Mark Cuban said in the release. "We are excited to work with a like-minded company that aligns with our goals and puts improving access to affordable prescriptions first."

Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug and RxPreferred plan to expand to local independent pharmacies in the future.

"There is an education component for employers and employees needed to help people and their families access the appropriate medications at the best possible costs and live healthy lives," Jeff Malone, CEO of RxPreferred, said in the release.

In December 2022, Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Co. partnered with Kentucky-based EmsanaRx to make lower-cost medicines available to employers.

The partnership came as a response to a growing desire among employers and healthcare purchases to reduce wasteful spending and increase transparency.

The Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company was launched in January 2022 as a disruptor that aims to fundamentally change the way the pharmaceutical industry works. The company now carries over 1,000 prescription products, which are delivered by mail. It works with health plans, managed-care organizations, pharmacy benefits managers and self-insured employers.
