FORT WORTH, Texas — LG Electronics has unveiled its new 100,000-square-foot facility plant in Fort Worth that will employ dozens of North Texans.
The new facility located at 2153 Eagle Parkway is the company's first factory in the United States for assembling electric vehicle charging stations.
The plant will produce Level 2 and Level 3 EV chargers to support the growing number of EVs on the road. The company says this month it will assemble Level 2 AC chargers. Then in the spring, it will begin to assemble LG's first Level 3 DC charger.
“This is a great day for Fort Worth,” said Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker, “with this global leader choosing to establish its U.S. manufacturing base for EV chargers and creating new jobs here. We take pride in knowing that LG’s advanced EV charging stations that will be deployed across the United States will be built right here in Fort Worth.
They plan to produce 10,000 chargers in the first year of production, then ideally increase from there. Production officially begins Monday.
Additionally, the new plant will house a training facility to teach upcoming IT professionals. They already have orders waiting to be produced.
The opening comes on the heels of the Biden administration awarding $623 million in grants to help build an electric vehicle charging network across the nation.
The opening of the new factory builds on LG’s longtime presence in the city, where its million-square-foot distribution center for consumer electronics and home appliances has been located for three decades.
