Heim Barbecue set to open its first Dallas location

This comes less than a year after the business, which started as a food truck, opened its second brick-and-mortar in Fort Worth.

DALLAS — Editor's note: The above video is a feature WFAA did about Heim Barbecue in 2015, when they were still operating out of a trailer.

In February 2015, Travis and Emma Heim quit their jobs, bought a trailer and set up shop as Heim Craft Barbecue in a parking lot on Fort Worth's south side.

To say their old-fashioned Texas barbecue business has been a success, would be an understatement.

Five years later, they announced their third brick-and-mortar location and first spot in Dallas.

Confirmation of the new location, in West Dallas across from Love Field, was posted Monday on the restaurant's Twitter account.

The spot was previously Jack Perkins’ Mockingbird Diner, which closed in June.

No date has been given for the opening.

Barbecue was a lifelong dream for Travis Heim. He smoked his first brisket when he was 13 years old, according to the restaurant's website.

Heim Barbecue has two locations in Fort Worth, one on 1109 W Magnolia Avenue and another on 5333 White Settlement Road. The Magnolia location is open seven days a week, while the one on White Settlement is closed on Mondays.
