MESQUITE, Texas — Dallas-based Half Price Books is closing a chapter on one of its North Texas locations after 30 years.
The chain selling used books and more is closing its Mesquite location at 1645 N. Town East Blvd. in the Market East Shopping Center will close May 5 after its lease is up, a Half Price Books spokesperson confirmed to WFAA. Half Price Books has had a presence in Mesquite since 1994.
“We’ve been in Mesquite since 1994 and have great customers in the area,” Half Price Books spokesperson Emily Bruce said. “But due to a decline in customer traffic, we made the decision to close at the end of our lease.”
Half Price Books has about 120 locations in 19 states, including about 40 in Texas, according to their website.
Other Half Price Books stores near Mesquite include one at 3085 N. George Bush Freeway in Garland, one at 959 E. I-30 in Rockwall, the flagship store at 5803 E. Northwest Highway in Dallas, and one in Richardson at 100 S. Central Expressway.
“We hope to see our customers at our other DFW locations, including our nearby stores in Rockwall and Garland,” Bruce added.
La Casita Bakeshop, by James Beard-nominated pastry chef Maricsa Trejo, is planning to open a shop serving coffee and pastries out of Half Price Books’ flagship store on Northwest Highway later this spring, to replace Black Forest Coffee.
Pat Anderson and Ken Gjemre first opened Half Price Books in Dallas in 1972, according to their website.
