IRVING, Texas — H-E-B is continuing its rapid expansion into North Texas after announcing plans to open a new store in Irving.
The new location will be located in the Las Colinas community at Interstate 635 and Olympus Blvd. in front of the former Fry's electronic store, making it the first proper H-E-B store located in Dallas County.
Right now, the closest H-E-B store for Dallas residents has been in Plano -- over 22 miles away. The Las Colinas location would still be around 18 miles away, but Dallas residents wouldn't have to take a toll road to get there.
Construction is expected to start later this year, and the store should be open by 2026. H-E-B expects the new store will create 700 jobs.
This new development marks the 10th H-E-B store in the works. The San Antonio-based company has 15 stores currently open across North Texas.
Across its 119-year history, H-E-B has largely strayed away from North Texas, but in recent years, the privately held grocery chain has rapidly expanded into the region.
According to Forbes, H-E-B raked in $43.6 billion in 2023. That makes H-E-B the fifth-largest privately-held company in the U.S. (Just two spots ahead of them is another regionally significant grocery store: Publix.)
Today, H-E-B operates more than 420 stores across Texas and Mexico.
