The maintenance arm of General Electric Aerospace wants to expand and upgrade its operations near Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport — and wants to do so with a tax abatement from the City of Fort Worth.

GE On Wing Support Inc. seeks to expand and improve two sites it uses for aircraft engine repair and manufacturing, and plans to spend an estimated $37.5 million on real property improvements and $12.5 million on equipment, according to the document.

Paul Bergman, a spokesperson for GE Aerospace, declined to comment. The Fort Worth Economic Development Department also declined to comment on the ongoing project.

But the expansion could be part of GE Aerospace's recent announcement of a $1 billion investment to expand and invest in maintenance, repair and overhaul and component repair facilities worldwide, including $250 million this year. About $65 million would go toward U.S. operations in Cincinnati; McAllen, Texas; Lafayette, Indiana; Dallas, and Winfield, Kansas, the company announced July 19.

The tax abatement would apply to GE's properties at Carter Field at 15225 FAA Blvd. and at 15101 FAA Blvd. — a total of about 18.94 acres. The location is about 4.5 miles from DFW International Airport. GE Engine Services - Dallas LP has been listed on the Carter Field building at 15225 FAA Blvd. deed since 1998, according to Tarrant County Appraisal District records. That building is an estimated 84,344 square feet, and the property's appraised value is $5.1 million.

A public presentation on the possible tax abatement is scheduled for Aug. 6 before Fort Worth City Council. Council could ultimately vote on the abatement on Aug. 16.

GE On Wing Support, a subsidiary of of GE Aerospace, is a full-service provider of engineering support for aircraft engine repairs, and has locations in Fort Worth, Cincinnati, London, Doha, Dubai, Shanghai and Seoul, according to the company's website.

GE Aerospace, which operates legally as General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) and is based in Ohio, supplies engines for American Airlines, which is headquartered in Fort Worth. GE Aerospace has installed about 44,000 commercial and 26,000 military aircraft engines, according to the company's website. Last year, Fort Worth-based aviation defense company Bell Textron Inc. announced GE Aerospace would provide some systems for the next generation attack helicopter Bell is developing, the V-280 Valor.
