FORT WORTH, Texas — Cantina Cadillac has been in The Stockyards for 42 years, since 1982. When the historic, beloved bar caught on fire on August 5, it broke owner Jay Hester's heart.
"It's been hard," he told WFAA Tuesday. "You know, it’s just part of your life, coming down and meeting people. you never know who you meet that’s the fun part."
For the last 11 months, Hester has been hard at work, not only repairing Cantina Cadillac but also preserving it.
"Everyone said, 'Don’t change it.' You walk in, it's Cadillac again." Hester said.
Hester told WFAA he was able to salvage several signs and souvenirs. Things that didn't survive, like the bar, ceiling and some floors, have been modeled to look and feel just like the old ones.
"We’re trying to make everything the same." Hester said.
Hester told WFAA he has been blown away by the love: the texts, calls and emails each day asking when the bar will be back open.
"We just really appreciate all the support," he said. "Can't believe all the support. Didn't know it meant that much to so many people."
Hester said his bar will re-open next month, an exact date has not been set yet.
"Good," Hester smiled. "It feels real good."
