Dallas Market Center chairman emeritus and former CEO Bill Winsor has died at the age of 78.
The center announced his passing Dec. 13. Winsor died in Austin following a brief illness.
Winsor was president and CEO of Dallas Market Center from 1993 until 2015 and after stepping down was named chairman emeritus. The center, a 5 million-square-foot campus at 2100 N Stemmons Freeway, is a business-to-business marketplace connecting buyers and sellers of consumer products.
During his time at Dallas Market Center, Winsor helped integrate fashion showrooms in the Dallas World Trade Center in 2004, Women’s Wear Daily reported. His effort led to a 1 million-square-foot marketplace for women’s, men’s and children’s apparel and accessories. Additionally, Winsor helped launch a Western and English marketplace in 2021 as well as expanding trade with Mexico and Latin America.
In concert, Winsor helped enrich North Texas' wholesale retail landscape and made Dallas-Fort Worth an even more important player in global trade.
Condolences from the Dallas community poured in on the center’s Facebook post announcing Winsor's passing.
"He will be missed by the entire DMC family. Bill always offered a smile and conversation when walking the halls," one user wrote.
"It is hard to believe he will not walk the halls again but his spirit will live on," another user commented.
Winsor is survived by his wife Kathleen, two sons and three grandchildren.
