FedEx opening new distribution center in Dallas to speed up service, deliver more packages

The 75,000 square foot facility will be at Cedardale Road and coincides with the city of Dallas' economic plan.

FedEx is opening a new distribution center in southern Dallas, which will begin operations in November, the company said Monday.

The new facility is part of the company’s nationwide expansion to boost daily package volume capacity, speed and service capabilities. Staffing needs have yet to be determined.

The 75,000 square foot facility will be at Cedardale Road and coincides with the city of Dallas' economic plan.

“The site was chosen because of its ease of access to major highways, proximity to customers' distribution centers and a strong local community workforce for recruiting employees,” FedEx said in a statement.

Dallas Councilmember Tennell Atkins, chair of the Economic Development Committee, said voters approved a $20 million bond in 2006 for the development of infrastructure in the Inland Port.

"Now, more than a decade later we see the continued benefits of this wise decision, including the recent lease of property by FedEx at the Cedardale Distribution Center in Dallas," Atkins said in a statement. "FedEx’s expansion is a sign of growth and shows business is booming in District 8 and Southern Dallas. They join other great companies the area, including L’oreal, Kroger and Amazon.”
