DALLAS — The decades-old downtown Dallas YMCA building – named after the late Texas oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens – will remain open after the potential sale of the property fell through.
The YMCA was under contract to sell the location, but the potential buyer backed out of the deal, according to officials. As a result, the T. Boone Pickens YMCA will remain open, and YMCA officials told WFAA in an email that the building will not be put back on the market.
"However, if an offer is made that is commensurate with the value of the building, the YMCA’s Board of Directors would have a fiduciary responsibility to evaluate it. While this is an unexpected turn, it speaks to the current market," President & CEO, Curt Hazelbaker said in a statement. "The Y remains committed to offering meaningful programming and serving the downtown/uptown community, while also allowing the organization to be the best steward of member, donor and community dollars."
The property was reportedly valued at nearly $12 million, though the asking price nor the potential buyer have ever been identified.
