DENTON, Texas — Allsup's, a convenience store chain known for its popular burritos and other hot snacks, has closed its location near the University of North Texas in Denton -- just about six months after the 24-hour store opened at 1030 W. Hickory Street in February.

As of Friday, the Denton store is no longer listed among the locations on the Allsup's website, and Google lists the location as permanently closed. A user on X also shared a photo showing a sign on the Allsup's door that noted the store was closed.

"As we continue to grow the Yesway brand and expand our offering to our Yesway and Allsup’s customers, we, on occasion, have the opportunity to divest certain stores that do not match our strategy and reinvest the proceeds in locations that enable us to provide a better customer experience," a spokesperson for Allsup's parent company Yesway said when reached for comment about the closure.

In North Texas, Allsup's still has locations in Alvord, Aubrey, Azle, Clifton, Decatur, Granbury, Justin, Lake Dallas, Mineral Wells, Sachse, Stephenville and Waco, per its website.

"We plan to continue our growth in Texas and are focused on building the best network of store locations in the state, to meet the needs of our valued customers," the Yesway spokesperson's statement continued.

Allsup's can trace its history to its founding family launching Lonnie's Drive-In Grocery in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1956. The Allsup family expanded that brand into a small chain before selling off its stores to the Dallas-based 7-Eleven in 1963. After the sale, the family launched Allsup's, which they named for their family.

Convenience store brand Yesway was founded in 2015, and purchased the Allsup's brand in 2019. In 2020, Yesway moved its headquarters to Fort Worth. The company current operates more than 400 stores across the Midwest and Southwest.
