After much anticipation, Prada opened at NorthPark Center this week, marking its one and only store in North Texas.
The Italian luxury fashion company opened a store of more than 10,000 square feet at the mall, which is home to several other high-end retailers, including House of Givenchy, Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga.
The Prada officially opened Dec. 10. It has been in the works since at least March 2023.
The new Prada store is situated in the South Court of the mall, between Louis Vuitton and Givenchy. Other brands in the corridor include Los Angeles-base Amiri, Vancouver-based Lululemon and high-end luggage maker Tumi. It is also directly across from British luxury brand Burberry, Milan-based luxury brand Marni and French designer Maison Margiela, which is known for pushing boundaries in the fashion world.
Prada, founded in 1913, is known by its signature triangular pattern, which is emblazoned on the new store’s facade and illuminated by a backlight. The inside of the store also echoes design elements of the brand’s original store in Milan, featuring a black-and-white checkered floor and pastel green hues throughout. Prada's U.S. headquarters is in New York City.
The new store is big enough to accommodate its men’s and women’s apparel collections, including ready-to-wear clothes, leather goods, footwear and purses. It also features its Eternal Gold jewelry line and other "lifestyle gift" items.
In Texas, Prada also has a store in Houston’s Galleria mall, next to high-end shoemaker Christian Louboutin. West Texas is also home to a Prada-inspired art installation in Marfa: a solitary mock-up of a store along a deserted highway, which has become a pop culture staple and destination for many fashion enthusiasts.
The new Prada store in North Park is in part of what to be Nike's old space at the mall, along with Amiri and Givenchy. The shoe and sports apparel company has relocated to a two-story space on the other side of the mall, a reimagined, "digitally focused" store format called Nike Rise.
It’s not surprising that Dallas, home to the sixth-most millionaires in the country, has become a hot spot for luxury fashion and a destination for high-end shoppers. Swiss watchmaker and celebrity brand Richard Mille has plans to open in Highland Park Village in spring 2025, which would be its ninth store in the United States.
