DALLAS — The Dallas Museum of Art is struggling to bounce back from the pandemic, the organization revealed in a press release sent out on Tuesday in which the museum was revealed that it would be laying off a number of full-time employees while simultaneously cutting back its operating hours.
In its news release, the museum said it is eliminating 8% of its workforce, which amounts to 20 full-time positions. Additionally, the DMA revealed that it would be restructuring two full-time positions into part-time employees.
The DMA also revealed that it is changing its hours of operation. Its doors will now be open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The museum said it hoped that, by implementing strategic changes immediately following the pandemic, it wouldn’t have to come to this decision. But, it said, the ongoing and lingering effects of COVID-19's economic fallout proved too insurmountable a hurdle to overcome.
“While we have not made these decisions lightly, like many nonprofit organizations in Dallas and around the county, the DMA must adjust to new realities in a post-pandemic world, including rising costs, expiration of government fund, and audiences not yet returning to pre-pandemic levels,” the nonprofit said in a statement.
The museum said it will be providing staff impacted by these changes with resources to support them.
