Another company is moving to North Texas from California — this one an electric vehicle brand

The company has already had a presence in North Texas since 2021.

JUSTIN, Texas — An electric vehicle company is moving its headquarters to North Texas.

Canoo, which is based in Torrance, California, announced that it will move its headquarters to Justin, which is about 40 miles northwest of Dallas. A Canoo spokesperson confirmed to WFAA that Canoo’s leadership team has been based in Justin since 2021.

The news of the move was included in Canoo’s second-quarter earnings report earlier this month, along with continued migration to their facilities in Oklahoma City and Pryor in northeastern Oklahoma.

The company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that it intends to offer relocation to about 137 employees of the 194 based in Torrance, with most being moved to Texas or the manufacturing facilities in Oklahoma.

The announcement of the news comes as TechCrunch reports the company’s chief technology officer Sohel Merchant has left the company.

The company also expanded into Saudi Arabia with the sale of 20 vehicles to a paint company there earlier this year. They also reached a deal with the U.S. Postal Service this year and delivered their first vehicles to van rental provider Kingbee.

Canoo joins several other companies who’ve recently announced moves from California to Texas, including notably Chevron, which is moving to Houston, and medical device company Koya Medical, which is moving to Dallas from Oakland, California.
