DALLAS — One of the largest companies in North Texas will have a new leader on Jan. 1.
Katie Farmer will take over as president and CEO of BNSF Railway next year, succeeding current chief executive Carl Ice, the company announced Monday afternoon. Farmer will also assume leadership of the board of directors for the Fort Worth-based rail giant. Ice will remain on the board after he retires at the end of the year.
"BNSF has long been a cost leader and we will ensure that continues into the future," Farmer said in a prepared statement. "I look forward to continuing BNSF's success."
Farmer is a 28-year veteran of BNSF and joined Burlington Northern as a management trainee in 1992. She has experience in the operations, marketing and finance divisions of the company and has been in her current role as executive vice president, operations since September 2018.
Farmer will lead not only one of the largest companies in North Texas, but the world. BNSF recorded more $23 billion in 2019 revenue, meaning it would be a Fortune 150 company if it were an independent entity.
