Spring break activities across DFW for kids of all ages

Museums and parks are planning special events for Spring Break week

DALLAS — Staying in town for Spring Break next week? 

From Mario Brothers to butterflies, there's a lot in North Texas to keep your family busy. Here's just a sample of staycation ideas you and your family can take advantage of. 

Let's start with the thrills: 

Six Flags Over Texas 

  • Open from 3/9 to 3/17 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Tickets start at $59, parking not included
  • Ride the world's largest loop coaster "El Diablo"

Go Ape Treetop Adventures

  • Locations in Plano and Arlington
  • Tickets cost $59.95 for kids 15 and under, $64.95 for adults
  • Features a 600-foot zipline

Great Wolf Lodge 

  • Indoor water park open no matter the weather
  • Full-day passes starts at $80 
  • Half-day passes starting at 4 p.m. is cheaper

Epic Waters 

  • Claims to be the largest indoor waterpark in North Texas 
  • Tickets begin at $59.95 
  • Open from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day of spring break

There are many cheaper options out there, too -- including outdoor activities: 

Fort Worth Botanic Garden

  • Tickets for kids start at $6 if you buy online
  • New "Dinosaurs Around the World" tour included with admission
  • Butterflies in the Garden experience costs extra

Fort Worth Zoo

  • Save and skip the line when you buy tickets online
  • Biggest crowds around lunchtime
  • Small coolers and outside food and drink are permitted inside the park

Dallas Zoo

  • Skip the parking line and parking cost by riding DART to the Zoo
  • Outside food and drink allowed 
  • See new signs designating animals that are descendants of dinosaurs 

Dallas Arboretum 

  • Extended hours during spring break week
  • Special events include Tulip Twilight Nights 
  • Admission is $13 for kids, $22 for adults 

But if the weather isn't cooperating, there are great inside activities too: 

Dallas Museum of Art

  • Special kids programming for the week of spring break
  • Free admission 
  • Activities inspired by a traveling exhibition on Impressionist art 

Museum of Video Games 

  • Old-school video games on display
  • Interactive exhibit 
  • Arrive early for best parking

Perot Museum of Nature and Science

  • Admission $25 for adults, $15 for kids 2-12 years old
  • Parking is $10 in museum lot
  • See the new exhibit "Mission Mars: Perseverance Rover"
