DALLAS — Southwest Airlines and Omni Hotels & Resorts will intertwine the wonder of a celestial phenomenon with the promise of luxury and exclusivity.
Starting Feb. 26, the companies are offering two winners and their guests free air travel and hotel stays in their "Solarbration" experience for the 2024 total solar eclipse.
During the April 8 total solar eclipse, the moon will be closer to the Earth and it will perfectly align with the sun, creating total darkness.
The sweepstakes—which you can enter now through March 11 —will reward two lucky winners with a prize package that includes air travel on a flight predicted to be in the direct path of the eclipse. Winners will also spend a night in a custom-designed guest room in an Omni Hotel in the departure cities of Dallas and Austin and the arrival cities of Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.
The following flights, included as sweepstakes prize options, have been identified as having the greatest likelihood of offering travelers onboard the best view of the eclipse:
- Southwest Flight #1252: Departs Dallas (Love Field) at 12:40 p.m. CDT for Pittsburgh
- Southwest Flight #1721: Departs Austin at 12:55 p.m. CDT for Indianapolis
Delta is also offering flight options to view the eclipse. The airline sold out its first eclipse-focused flight but has since added a second route out of DFW Airport on April 8. Delta Flight 1010 will leave DFW at 12:30 p.m. on April 8 and arrive in Detroit at 4:20 p.m. Eastern Time.
NASA said the next total solar eclipse visible from the U.S. won't occur until August 23, 2044, making the 2024 eclipse an unmissable marketing moment.
Beyond the contest, the two companies say they will enhance the in-flight and hotel experience for all guests with eclipse-themed amenities, creating a memorable journey even for those not clutching the golden ticket.
