DALLAS — If you forget the all-purpose flour from the store or just need a sugar fix from the candy aisle, you may be able to get it dropped off at your house from above.

Walmart has expanded drone delivery operations to Arlington and Fort Worth.

It’s another sign that commercial drones are becoming more and more a part of our daily lives.

In January 2024, Walmart announced that it would expand its drone deliveries to cover up to 75% of Dallas-Fort Worth residents. Walmart already has drone delivery service at locations in Lewisville, Frisco, and North Richland Hills.

Customers can now get essentials from the Walmart Supercenter located at 4800 U.S. 287 Frontage Rd in Arlington and 8520 N Beach St in Fort Worth delivered to their homes in 30 minutes or less.

The company said about 75% of the items Walmart sells can be delivered by drone.

The drone delivery service will be powered by on-demand drone delivery providers, Wing and Zipline.

Both Wing and Zipline are approved by the FAA to fly their drones without a dedicated observer being able to see the drone at all times, known as Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS), which will enable drone delivery to more Texans than ever before, Walmart officials said in a release.

The drones are a little more than four feet long with a wingspan of nearly 5 feet. They weigh about 11 pounds without a package and can travel up to 65 miles per hour. The delivery radius for stores offering the service will be up to 6 miles.
