Things to do in North Texas this weekend: GrapeFest, Planetarium and Hispanic Heritage Month parade

DALLAS — It will feel like summer again this weekend after a (brief) respite of cool temperatures. Here's a list of events to keep you busy this weekend, including Grapevine's annual GrapeFest and several parades celebrating DFW's minority communities.

Friday, Sep. 13

GrapeFest Wine Festival & Experience (Grapevine)

GrapeFest is one of the signature events in Grapevine and is the largest wine festival in the Southwest. The festival begins Thursday, Sept. 12, and extends through Sunday, Sept. 15. The event features live music, food, rides and family-friendly activities. On Friday, the headliner is Taylor Hicks, an American Idol-winning singer. There will also be a GrapeStomp competition throughout Friday. General admission tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children and adults.

Saturday, Sept. 14 

View the moon at UT Arlington Planetarium (Arlington) 

UT Arlington and NASA will host International Observe the Moon Night in the UTA Observatory from 8 to 10 p.m. to examine the moon and talk to astronomy experts. The moon will be in its waxing gibbous phase, where it’s greater than 50% illuminated but not yet a full moon.

Sunday, Sept. 15

Pride in Dallas Parade at Cedar Springs (Dallas)

Pride is Dallas will take place Sunday, Sept. 15 on Cedar Springs Road in Dallas. The event will feature a parade, live entertainment, food, drink and evening celebrations. The live entertainment will feature will feature live music, drag performances, and speeches.
