DALLAS — 'Twas the season before the holidays, and all through DFW (dub).
No light goes unstrung and no branches unfluffed.
“It’s magic around here,” said Holly Quartaro, Galleria Dallas Fashion and Lifestyle Director.
First stop, Galleria Dallas where Santa’s helpers work jolly.
It’s the tallest indoor Christmas tree where we meet Holly.
“It takes 50 of Santa’s best elves over four days to put it all together. We have over 700 branches. Each of those branches is essentially a three- to five-foot Christmas tree on its own,” said Quartaro. “The star on top is 10 feet tall and weighs over 100 pounds.”
It’s 95 feet tall and has more than 10,000 decorations.
Each piece placed brings quite the presentation.
“How do they do all that? How is it not scary to them?” asked Meadow Hilburn, a shopper. “I think that’s amazing that people are able to do stuff like that.”
While the tree comes together, there’s another in line.
It’s plucked from an Oregon forest going straight to Grapevine.
“Very exciting,” said Elizabeth Schrack, Visit Grapevine director of communications.
Schrack knows all the ins and outs.
Because decorating began before November came about.
“We are so excited for the Christmas Capital of Texas to get underway in just a few weeks, 1,400 events in over 40 days,” Schrack said.
From Peace Plaza ice skating to the historic main street,
While reindeer get ready, old Saint Nick meets and greets.
“It’s one of his favorite places to be. He loves the Christmas Capital of Texas,” Schrack said. “We just really want everyone to come here and feel the spirit of the season, really make traditions with their families, make memories that will last a lifetime.”
So, before presents are wrapped and bows are tied.
Remember the spirit, cheer and joy, because that’s what makes it holiday time.
Galleria Dallas will host its annual grand tree-lighting celebration on Black Friday, Nov. 29, and Nov. 30.
Grapevine’s 36th annual Carol of Lights is from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 25.
