NEW YORK — The 16-year-old son of a Dallas police officer had one of his dreams recently come true: a special tour around New York City, including a visit from NYPD in Central Park.
WABC (ABC7), the ABC affiliate in New York, was there as Dylan Jankowski visited with the NYPD toward the end of his six-day Make-A-Wish visit.
Jankowski suffers from a rare blood disorder called Aplastic anemia, WABC reported, and his dream of getting to visit Central Park came true after spending years in and out of the hospital.
"It's a very great place, it's beautiful, you have so many sites to see -- from history to America, it's very great how people can build these towers and live out their dreams," Jankowski told ABC7.
During his visit, Jankowski also got to ride the subway, go to a Yankees game, hold Babe Ruth's bat, go to the Statue of Liberty and see Harry Potter on Broadway, according to ABC7.
His visit with mounted police in Central Park, though, brought emotional moments for his father, a Dallas police officer, and his mother.
"It's everything, it took a long time to get here, it's a very long process," she said.
Jankowski got to wear a vest and shied, ride in a sidecar and more. When asked about his experience, he gave it a 10 out of 10.
