ARLINGTON, Texas — Popular Tex-Mex restaurant El Tiempo opened up its first location in North Texas on Monday.
The Houston-based chain is well-known for its margaritas and an expansive Tex-Mex menu. Its first location in North Texas opened in Choctaw Stadium, the former home of the Texas Rangers, on July 1.
Choctaw Stadium is right across the street from Globe Life Field and the Texas Live! entertainment area, and their arrival couldn't come at a better time for foot traffic.
El Tiempo will be the newest dining option for fans who come to Arlington for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, with festivities beginning July 12 through July 16. The restaurant's location in Choctaw Stadium will put it at the heart of Arlington's Entertainment District.
It won't be El Tiempo's first location in a ballpark; they have several locations inside Minute Maid Park, the home of the Astros, all of which serve their famous margaritas. The restaurant is also known for its fajitas and house-made tortillas,
The restaurant's history dates back to 1969 when a widowed Ninfa Laurenzo closed shop on their family's tortilleria and opened up the first iteration of their family restaurant. The business became a multi-million-dollar enterprise before going bankrupt in the 1990s.
One of Ninfa's sons, Roland Laurenzo, opened the first El Tiempo Cantina in 1998, keeping the family dream alive.
So far, the new location is not listed on El Tiempo's website, but you can take a look at the restaurant's menu, including its famous fajitas.
When there is no event in the entertainment district, parking is free in Lot B, which is located on Randol Mill Road and Stadium Drive.
