FORT WORTH, Texas — Famed Fort Worth Tex-Mex restaurant Joe T. Garcia’s has the best margaritas in Texas, according to readers of Southern Living magazine.
The 89-year-old hotspot near the Fort Worth Stockyards on North Commerce Street recently got the designation in Southern Living’s eighth-annual South’s Best survey and awards.
Southern Living readers picked their favorites during an online survey that ran from July 12 to Aug. 23, 2023, that got more than 20,000 respondents, according to the magazine’s website.
Joe T. Garcia’s is such a hotspot that numerous celebrities – everyone from Garth Brooks to Michael Jackson to Bruce Springsteen to Elton John – have stopped by the local institution over the years.
The eatery, known for its lush patio, enchiladas, fajitas, and, yes, margaritas, was founded in 1935 by Joe T. Garcia and his wife, known affectionately as Mamasuez. The restaurant remains under the stewardship of their grandchildren, Lanny, Zurella, Joe, Jesse, Phillip, and Elizabeth.
It’s grown from a small, six-table dining room to cover an entire block of Commerce Street, as Southern Living reported.
