DALLAS — La Casita, the restaurant and coffee shop by James Beard-nominated pastry chef Maricsa Trejo, is officially open in the flagship Half Price Books.

The new location opened last week.

For now, visitors to the bookstore can get coffee and pastries in the new shop, with sandwiches and toasts expected to be added shortly, followed by a full brunch and dinner menu, according to La Casita managing partner Brianna Short.

La Casita Bakeshop replaces Black Forest Coffee, which moved out of Half Price Books after a string of more than 20 years.

Trejo and her husband Alex Henderson opened their first La Casita storefront in Richardson in 2019. La Casita now has a location in Rowlett and a garden in Frisco, according to their website. The shop in the flagship Half Price Books at 5803 E. Northwest Highway marks the couple's first location in Dallas.

Eventually, they plan to add a tiki bar to the Dallas location, which is a first for La Casita concepts.
