A new, trendy vintage store is headed to Deep Ellum, joining the list of unique clothing retailers in one of Dallas' most eclectic neighborhoods.

Houston-based Thrifted Threads — which claims to be "not your average thrift shop" — is expanding to Dallas after opening stores in Houston and College Station. It expects to open Nov. 2 at 2646 Main St. in Deep Ellum, which is just east of downtown.

"I want our shoppers to come in for the first time and be inundated with high-quality pieces that will make the perfect addition to a collection or serve as the start of a new one," Laith Awad, CEO and founder of Thrifted Threads, said in a statement.

The Dallas location will span about 2,500 square feet. In an announcement, the company said it wants to channel the "vibrant, eclectic energy of the neighborhood." It appears the Dallas store was initially slated to open in August.

Thrifted Threads is opening in a neighborhood known for its nightlife and unique retailers, including other thrift stores such as 2nd Street and Dolly Python. The area has seen a handful of prominent closures in the past year, ranging from longtime restaurants to a major brewery. But fresh development is underway, bringing new businesses to the neighborhood.

The Deep Ellum location of Thrifted Threads will be in a historic building that in recent years has been home to stores selling clothing and jewelry. It's located near an art gallery, cider bar and tattoo shop.

Thrifted Threads will sell clothing dating back to the 1970s through the 2000s, arranged by color. Decor inside the store includes a motorcycle display and free arcade games.

Awad launched Thrifted Threads in 2017 as an online resale shop, selling mostly on Instagram, when he was still a teenager. Almost five years later, Awad opened his first brick-and-mortar location in Houston, specializing in retro styles and quality second-hand fashion.

Its other stores also serve complimentary ice cream to encourage people to gather and hang out in the space.

Thrifted Threads is known for its collection of stylish and nostalgic second-hand clothing, a style that is growing quickly in the fashion world. But what's causing all the buzz? Some say it's a way for young people to connect with the past and reflect the fashion sense of another time, as well as reduce their environmental footprint. With vintage stores becoming more accessible, some shops also sell clothes at more affordable price points.

Thrifted Threads' opening day, on Saturday, Nov. 2, will feature live music and special treats. The first 100 customers will be entered into a giveaway for a chance to win a $200 in-store gift card.
