ARLINGTON, Texas — The renovations at Senter Park in Arlington are starting to take shape after a Friday morning groundbreaking for the All-Star Legacy Project.
With shovels in hand, Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, Corey and Mandy Seager, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, and MLB representatives joined forces to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony.
Senter Park is located south of downtown and about three miles from Globe Life Field.
As part of the renovation, the park will get new dugouts, bullpens, fencing, scoreboards, new turf, and even a new name -- All-Star Legacy Park. The renovation will also include additional seating behind home plate and the addition of shade over bleachers. There will also be improvements to the parking lots and sidewalks.
"The renovation will ensure the youth of Arlington have ample opportunities to play baseball and softball," said Neil Leibman, chairman of the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation Board of Directors.
The remodeled park will also be home to new batting cages named in honor of World Series MVP Corey Seager -- the Corey Seager Batting Cages will be installed where the current western parking lot is and will include four lanes, lights, and a hard-covered warm-up area.
Renovations are expected to be finished by July 1, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to follow. Globe Life Field will host the 2024 All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 16.
In addition to the investment made by the Rangers and MLB, the project is being made possible by the city of Arlington, Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, Optimist Club of Arlington, Corey and Mady Seager, Graham Civil Engineering, Paragon Sports Construction, and Yuggi Lighting.
