DENTON, Texas — This week The University of North Texas Police Department will welcome their new community service K9.

For more than a week, UNT police asked the public for help picking a name for the pup. Voters had to choose between five names: Clover, Grace, Jazz, Luna, or Maple.

And the winner is - CLOVER!

Clover is a reference to the school color green and lucky. The department said it received more than 4,000 votes.

Clover won with 1,075 votes, Jazz came in second with 1,050, Maple was third with 860 votes, Luna received 640, and Grace was fifth with 444 votes.

"We will be getting Clover this week but she still needs her puppy vaccinations to keep her healthy and some obedience training," the department said in an X post.

They hope to have Clover out in the community by the week of Homecoming or soon afterward.

Earlier this year, UNT police’s explosives detection K9 Keegan retired after six years of service.
