GARLAND, Texas — A North Texas third grader’s lemonade stand raised more than $1,100 to help the animals at the Garland Animal Shelter and Adoption Center.
Benjamin Fuentes, 7, whose mother, Christie, works as the community outreach coordinator for the shelter, set up his lemonade stand last weekend intending to raise $750. He ended up raising $1,100 for Friends of Animal Rescue, which helps the shelter with expenses for heartworm treatments, dog transports, and out-of-the-ordinary medical treatments.

Part of the proceeds will also go toward sponsoring a different Ben, one of about 10 dogs who will be transported to an animal shelter in Iowa this week. It’s part of efforts by a group called Pink Happy Tails Transport, which works with the shelter to transport dogs across the country to shelters that have a shortage of adoptable animals.
The lemonade stand this past weekend wasn’t Fuentes’ first one. He previously raised $569 at a lemonade stand in June.
