BURLESON, Texas — A working cow dog helped deputies wrangle cows that escaped from a trailer in North Texas this week.

The cows escaped from a trailer at the Mexican Inn restaurant in Burleson this week while the owners were inside eating, deputies say. Tarrant County deputies, the Burleson Police Department, Fort Worth Police Department and the Johnson County Constable’s Office responded, with the help of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office cow dog, Maverick.

Maverick joined the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office in April and helps to find and catch loose cattle.

Meet our working cow dog, Maverick. He’s 2.5 years old and joined the TCSO Livestock Unit in April of 2024. He helps to locate and catch loose cattle with his handler, Deputy Dalton. Cows escaped from a trailer at the Mexican Inn in Burleson yesterday while the owners were inside eating. Thank you to Burleson PD, Fort Worth PD, and the Johnson County Constable’s Office for their assistance!
