DALLAS — When Charles Teichman immigrated to Dallas from France nearly 40 years ago, he had two dreams.
First, he wanted to build a successful business, which he did.
The second dream was for his daughter, Alysa, to join the business, which she didn’t.
“When I applied for college, I didn’t even apply to or visit any schools in Texas,” Alysa said.
Instead, she went to Northwestern, then moved to New York City to pursue her own dreams.
She built quite a successful career and then, one day, her parents came to visit her in New York. They sat down over lunch and made an offer.
They’d seen how successful she had been and wanted to know if she’d come home and do the same for the family business.
“There’s just nothing more precious to me than my relationship with my dad,” Alysa said.
It’s a relationship that’s only grown since coming home.
She joined the family business, Ylang 23—a jewelry store—six years ago. She’s brought in plenty of new ideas, which has brought out dad jokes.
“She complains all the time. She asks for a raise all the time and the answer is always, 'No,'” Charles joked.
“He’s kidding,” Alysa responded. “We really love each other, and we have a very special relationship.”
Truthfully, Alysa helped modernize the business and set it up for future success, but more importantly it’s allowed them to forge a deeper bond.
“We really are so lucky,” she said. “I feel so grateful to be able to work alongside him every day and learn from him and I hope he would say the same.”
“150 percent,” Charles said. “I’m glad that she’s here. I’m very grateful. Every day is a blessing.”
And a dream come true.
