DALLAS — Everyone has tips, tricks and secrets to navigate the State Fair of Texas, but there’s one tip that might double the fun.
“If you come to the door of the theater and buy a ticket, you get into the fair for free,” said Wayne Wilson, associate director and comedic content designer for Cirque du Soleil’s Songblazers.
Yes, anyone who purchases a ticket to Songblazers at the Music Hall at Fair Park will get to enjoy the State Fair for free after the show.
However, it doesn’t entirely work the other way around. Anyone who purchases a State Fair ticket first will get a 20 percent discount, not free, on a ticket to Songblazers.
Cirque du Soleil Songblazers is the newest show by the renowned circus company.
In Songblazers, Cirque du Soleil moves its high-flying performance out of a tent and into the theater, mixing country music with high-flying artistry.
“If you’re a lover of country music, this is the show for you,” Wilson said. “If you’re a lover of Cirque du Soleil, this is the show for you and I think it scratches both of those itches.”
Wilson, who helped design and stars in the show, grew up near Houston and says every performance takes him back.
“There’s these moments that I can remember in my life that brings them back every night,” he said.
With influential songs from influential people, Wilson says it can do the same for the audience, too. Unlike any Cirque du Soleil show ever performed, Wilson says it may be the best one yet.
“I’ve never been a part of a show in all of my years where night after night after night we have a standing ovation,” said Wilson, who’s been with the company more than 20 years.
Great performances, great music and free admission to the fair. What else does anyone need?
“It’s my first time at the State Fair,” Wilson said. “I’m looking forward to getting these corny dogs.”
