THE COLONY, Texas — Miniature golf has existed for decades, but the newest spot in The Colony is not your grandpa’s mini golf.
“Nope,” said Kale Vliek, PopStroke’s Texas director of operations. “No windmills, no clowns, no water features.”
Instead, according to Vliek, it’s an elevated mini golf experience.
“This is not goofy golf,” Vliek said.
PopStroke, which partnered with Tiger Woods and Taylor Made, opened in late March at the Grandscape. It features two 18-hole courses. One, the black course, is a little easier. The other, the blue course, features more changes in elevation, making it more challenging.
However, both are meant to remind players of traditional golf.
“It’s definitely a challenge, but it is approachable for everyone,” Vliek said.
What sets this place apart, though, isn’t just golf.
PopStroke created a hand-crafted food and drink menu, provides a playground for kids and yard games for anyone who is interested in anything other than golf.
“That’s the beauty of this whole concept is there is truly something for everyone,” Vliek said.
There’s also an emphasis on technology. Big screen televisions are located throughout the course so guests don’t miss any of their favorite sports.
Players can use a classic paper scorecard, but are able to keep score through the PopStroke app, where they can also order drinks that will be delivered to them on the course. It’s a convenient feature because players can spend all day on the course.
The daily fee allows guests to play all day, to come-and-go as they please.
“Yep, as much mini golf as you’d like,” Vliek said.
