Dog days of summer | North Texas waterparks open up to help cool pooches down

Many North Texas waterparks and pools invite dogs to close out the season with a splash.

CARROLLTON, Texas — When the dog days of summer wind down, North Texas waterparks and pools fill up.

“We have people who want to bring their animals everywhere,” said Susan Prosoco, marketing manager for the city of Carrollton. “We completely understand that.”

That’s why, on the last day of the season, Carrollton’s Rosemeade Rainforest Aquatic Complex goes to the dogs. For more than a decade, the city has invited dogs and owners to close out the season with a doggone good time.

“You’ve got really good interaction between dogs making buddies, neighbors making friends,” Prosoco said.

Prosoco said this year’s Carrollton Pooch Pool Party is Sept. 7.

It’s just one of more than a half dozen doggie pool parties happening in North Texas in September. Hawaiian Waters in The Colony and Garland will both host a pool party for pups, NRH2O in North Richland Hills will open its waterpark to dogs and several others will do the same.

Prosoco said Carrolton’s party, and every one like it, is arguably the most joyful day of the year.

“If you come out there, not feeling so great, watching these doggies play you’re just immediately in a great mood,” said Prosoco.
